Prof. Ala Bashir is a plastic surgeon, painter and sculptor. He obtained his fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He was the Head of the committee for higher specialization in plastic & reconstructive surgery in Iraq from 1992-2003. He performed the first successful reattachment of a severed hand in the Middle East in 1982. He has published 20 articles and five new surgical techniques in the British Journal of Plastic Surgery and the American year book of Plastic Surgery. His artwork has been shown in UK, USA, Russia, China, France, Germany, India, Italy and the Arab countries. His paintings and sculptures are on display in American Visionary Art Museum-USA, Corvus Art Centre- USA, D.H.Lawrence Birth House-UK, Museum Of Fine Art –Jordan and the Contemporary Art Museum-Qatar.
